MEDIA BIAS

When thinking about media bias the first thing that comes to mind is news stations. News stations are all bias in their own way. Not saying being bias is bad but if you don't acknowledge other peoples thoughts that's when media bias can be bad. For example, Fox news(conservative bias) and CNN(liberal bias) both have their own view on covering news.

COMMERCIAL FORCES AND MEDIA ORGANIZATIONS

This is when product placement comes into play! Have you ever seen a Netflix show and they make sure you see an Apple product? That's on purpose. By doing that Netflix is making money from Apple to put their product in it and Apple makes money because they have their product being seen by viewers.

MEDIA GRAMMAR

To understand what media grammar is you have to understand the language the media is talking in. If it's a comedy flick or a horror movie depends on the dialogue it uses. For example, in a horror movie when you hear dark music and lighting change you can tell what's going to happen. You predict in your head what's going to happen because of other horror movies you have seen in the past.

SEMIOTICS & FRAMING

Image result for picture of a pipe       Semiotics and Framing can get very confusing. Semiotics is the study of signs and symbols, while Framing is putting them to use. For example in the above picture, what is it?  If you said that it's a pipe you are wrong. It's a picture of a pipe. It isn't a physical pipe that we can pick up or touch, it's just a picture. An example of framing is the below picture of the people trying to survive the hurricane Katrina. They say in the picture on the left that they "Find". The picture on the right they say "loot". They are both doing doing the same thing but the word choice they use for the black man is framing him to look like he's doing something wrong.
